Madden Soundtracks, 2000-09, Ranked

Illustration for article titled Madden Soundtracks, 2000-09, Ranked

10. Madden NFL 2001 - Mainly because it was basically only one song from Xzibit, who is not enough to carry a video game soundtrack by his lonesome.

Best Track - None. Sorry X-to-the-Z.

9. Madden NFL 2002 - It featured a completely original track written especially for EA Sports and the franchise by Pharoahe Monch, the instrumental track to Mos Def's (or Yasiin Bey, depending on which side of his career you prefer) classic "Mathematics," and Talib Kweli's "Down for the Count," which also featured Xzibit.

Best Track - "Mathematics"

8. Madden NFL 09 - Despite one of my favorite random rappers who pops up in random places, Izza Kizza, being featured on it, there are more garbage songs on this soundtrack than there are good ones.

Best Track - Franz Ferdinand, "Lucid Dreams"

7. Madden NFL 2003 - This barely beats 09 because of Andrew WK's career-breaking hit, "Party Hard," and the not-too-corny-to-still-enjoy remix of Nappy Roots' "Aw Naw," which featured the lead singer from P.O.D.

Best Track - Party Hard. Fun Fact: My mom wouldn't get me Andrew WK's album because of the cover.

6. Madden NFL 08 - There's some really bad songs on here from guys like Pitbull, Daddy Yankee, Mims, and Ozzy Osbourne, but there were some late-00s gems on it, too. Queens of the Stone Age's "3s & 7s," Datarock's "The New Song," and "Tick Tick Boom" from The Hives.

Best Track - The Bravery, "Believe"

5. Madden NFL 06 - This was the first Madden available on the XBox 360 (which I didn't have), so there were some added songs on that particular release, like "Welcome Home" from Coheed and Cambria, and Green Day's war anthem, "Wake Me Up When September Ends" (which I liked at the time because I was 15 and American Idiot made me feel all politically conscious and shit).

Best Track (from the PS2 version I had) - Avenged Sevenfold, "Bat Country"

4. Madden NFL 10 - This was the first Madden soundtrack to have classic rock/rap songs featured. Thus, we got songs from 2Pac and Iron Maiden, among others.

Best Track - Nas & Diddy, "Hate Me Now"

3. Madden NFL 07 - Spank Rock ruined me as a 16 year old because as I searched for his music on Limewire, and various other illegal avenues, I was given a gateway into many different other things with the keywords of "spank" and "rock."

Best Track - Lupe Fiasco, "The Instrumental"

2. Madden NFL 2005 - This is tough to put second because of two songs: "Alive and Amplified" by The Mooney Suzuki, and Ozomatli's "Saturday Night."

Best Track - Franz Ferdinand, "Take Me Out"

1. Madden NFL 2004 - To be honest, this wasn't even a contest. Madden 04 is the reason why I love Southern rap so much. Songs like...

But, the best track is definitely... Killer Mike - Akshon (Yeah!)

Nu nu for you you.
